The Butcher's Daughter: A Story of Family, Food, and Community

From a young age, food was at the heart of our family. I grew up on a small farm, helping my parents raise animals and harvest fresh vegetables from the garden. Every Sunday morning, my siblings and I would race to the chicken coop to gather warm eggs for breakfast. My dad, a butcher by trade, taught us the value of hard work and the importance of using every part of the animal. He built a meat room in our basement where he processed our farm-raised animals and became the go-to butcher for local hunters.

This love for food and family led me to a career in the food service industry, where I spent 30 years working in sales and as a business resource specialist. But in 2020, as the world slowed down, I found myself thinking about the past and dreaming of the future. The same week my father passed away unexpectedly, my husband, siblings, and I were reminiscing about him. My dad and I shared a love for food and a bond that was impossible to break. While sharing my dream of opening a food business, my mother suggested the perfect name: The Butcher's Daughter. My dad would have loved it.

And so, the journey began.

From Food Trailer to Your Front Door

What started as a small food trailer quickly grew into something much bigger. We found a beautiful location on the Androscoggin River in Gorham, NH, and opened a shop offering sandwiches, salads, and baked goods, along with fresh meats and seafood. It wasn't long before my husband, Brian, joined the business full-time. As a former protein specialist and executive chef, his expertise helped us become the local “go-to butcher” for quality cuts.

We loved seeing our regulars come in for a great sandwich and a friendly chat. But we realized that with busy schedules, many of our customers couldn't stop by as often. We asked ourselves, "What if we could bring our shop to them?"

That question led to the next chapter of our story: a home delivery service. We now deliver the same high-quality meats, fresh seafood, and grocery essentials you'd find in our shop directly to your doorstep. No middlemen, just trusted products packed with care and delivered with a smile.

Today, we proudly serve our community with daily deliveries, making it easier for families to eat well, support local, and stay connected to the food they love.

From our family to yours—thanks for letting us be part of your table.

I am a regular. Nothing from this place has ever disappointed me! The prepared foods like the pork dumplings, loaded potatoes and brussels sprouts with bacon are a cheap and easy way to throw a great dinner together.

Great choice of meats and great service and friendly staff.

Wow, absolutely scrumptious filets, well worth every cent! If the chicken is half as good, I'll be twice over the moon.

testimonial Deryl M.

I absolutely love this place. Some of the best fresh fish around. This is a bi-weekly stop for me. Can't go wrong.

Every time we're in NH we come to BD to get delicious and inexpensive NY strips. They're THICK cut, amazing. The butcher used to work in NJ with a competitor of Pat La Frieda (love PLF) and the shop has anything else you'd like, sandwiches, pastries, local beers, and even a gift shop. It's very cozy and welcoming inside as well.
